31 for 21 Day 8

Addysen October 2007

This morning we had Addy's first IEP Meeting! It went really well. It's so weird though considering I run IEP meetings all of the time, it seems kinda silly going over things with me but oh well. Scott gets to be exposed to all of the lovely special ed paperwork that I do daily! As he was leaving he handed me the Procedural Safeguards and said "Do I really need to take this?" I was very pleased with Addy's evaluation, she hadn't been formally tested since August of 07, just a couple days after we brought her home from Minnesota.

Here is how she scored:

Gross Motor: age equivalent 12 month
Fine Motor: Standard Score: 68 age equivalent of 11-14 months
Language: Receptive: 77, Expressive 69, Total: 70, age equivalent of 20 months
Cognitive: Standard Score: 55
Social/Emotional: Standard Score 70
Adaptive Behavior: Communication 64, Daily Living Skills 62, Socialization 76 and Motor 57

So Addy now has a "diagnosis" of a Young Child with a Developmental Delay. Big shocker! She will be receiving 120 minutes per week of speech therapy (90 minutes at home, 30 minutes at school), 120 minutes per week of Developmental therapy (at home), 60 minutes of PT at home and 60 minutes of OT at school. We declined putting Addy into our Helping Hands Preschool which is a reversed mainstream preschool. The reason being is the fact that Addy is non-ambulatory and has a compromised immune system. The fact that she's going to be at school for an hour and a half on Fridays terrifies me just a little bit. If she does end up getting sick her services will be switched back so they are all at home. We just wanted her to have some exposure to school. I am the speech pathologist for our ECSE program but fortunately Addy will be working with another SLP who works with our school age population. I think they are going to be a good fit! I still can't believe that my baby is going to be 3 in 10 days!

I know how you feel. I can't believe Jax will be four. Yikes, the kid still wears 12 month pants.

Look at how cute she was as a baby!! (of course she still is cute, but this is just the first picture I have seen as a baby) I was just talking to another mom today and I was saying that I love having friends with kids Ella's age but I also love having some with kids a little bit older that can show me what's to come. Sounds like you made the perfect decision for Addy!!
