31 for 21 Day 11

My sweet girl having a little OT/PT this evening! Here is the developmental chart for gross motor skills for DS:
Sits Alone:6-30 Months, Addy sat at 18 months old
Crawls: 8-22 Months, Addy crawled at 34 months
Stands: 1-3.5 Years, Addy is not standing on her own but will with support
Walks Alone: 1-4 Years, I am hoping Addy is walking at 4 years but if not it's okay, she'll walk when she's ready!
So what do we do to help her? TONS! Addy has so much stimulation throughout the day! She has a stander and a gait trainer that she spends time in everyday. She also has Rody, this little horse that is really good for vestibular stimulation which is the foundation for language, memory and gross motor skills such as running and jumping. The vestibular system contributes to our balance and our sense of spatial orientation, it is the sensory system that provides the dominant input about movement and equilibrium.

She will do EVERYTHING,I have no doubt about that!Yes when she is ready, which from the look of things will be before you know it.Zoey has a pink Rody.We don't use it nearly enough as without use of her eft arn it makes things difficult to get her to hold on.Zoey also doesn't bounce her little legs either but like Addy,I know she will,in her own time.Addy is looking cute as ever!

Thanks for that info! Our PT is discouraging Emilia from walking too soon. She said the crawling motion helps the looseness that Ds kids have in the joints, it makes sense... kind of. It's hard to discourage any kind of progress.Have you ever heard this before?

I thought V would never walk once upon a time..

Any time our PT would even dare to stand him on his legs he would absolutely wail. Let's just say bearing his own weight was not a favorite activity.
He did take FOREVER to crawl and eventually to walk. He turned 3 last September, and in March he finally started walking with a walker. Now, at 4 he's an old pro.. sort of.
He's not really steady. If we have to go any distance we still have to use the stroller, but he's getting there little by little.

Sooo... miss Addy, keep the faith.
One day your Mom will put you down and you'll run like the wind!

Everything in her own time. She will do it before you know it.

Thanks for posting this! Our PT was just telling us about the Rody horse. I have been debating getting one but I think I will after reading your post. Addy is doing great and you have such a great attitude. She will absolutely walk when she is ready!
