31 for 21 Day 30

I haven't been very good about always talking about Down syndrome during this month, however, I have posted everyday! I'm taking this from Michelle I read her post about Kayla the other day and wanted to keep it real too, however I'm not going to say these are things Addy can't do, just .... things she's not doing yet! 1. Addy doesn't stand on her own. 2. Addy doesn't walk. 3. Addy doesn't use verbal words to communicate. 4. Addy doesn't eat. 5. Addy doesn't drink. 6. Addy isn't potty trained. 7. Addy isn't into everything :) 8. Addy isn't coloring with purpose. 9. Addy doesn't run on the playground. 10. Addy doesn't go to school. 11. Addy doesn't pretend play. 12. Addy doesn't run away from me at top speed! 13. Addy doesn't throw temper tantrums. 14. Addy doesn't dress herself. 15. Addy doesn't know her colors. 16. Addy doesn't identify all major body parts. 17. Addy doesn't follow two-step directions. 18. Addy doesn't tell you how old she is (but she's close!) 19. Addy doesn't tell you her name. 20. Addy doesn't know what a gift adoption is. 21. Addy doesn't know that she has Down syndrome and is the most amazing little girl, but she will! :)

Once again,I come here and feel very connected to you and Addy.I feel our girls are similar in so many areas.Zoey at just a bit younger then Addy, joins her on all the "doesn't do things yet"listed and then some! But ,you know,it has been a long time since I spent much time thinking about that list and realized, eventually, that they weren't just words when people would say "Zoey will do things in Zoey's time."I am just drawn to Addy and that precious, precious face of hers.I too think she is pretty darn amazing!

Ahh, our children. Sweet, stubborn, and running on their own timeclock.
It's not fair to judge them by "typical" standards. "typical" kids don't have major open heart or abdominal surgery after surgery. They don't have strokes and cancer, they don't fight every single day just to live.
Our kiddos do that and more.. and they do it with a smile and love that no "typical" Mom or Dad could ever imagine!

How lucky we are.

I think Addy is perfect just as she is :-) We too, have a list of can't or don't do's that we try not to focus but at the same time "work on".
I too, seem to be drawn to your blog and watching Addy's progress. She just reminds me of my Sophia so much. Thanks for sharing your story with all of us!

great post! and you're right about not saying 'can't' - it's just things they are working on right now. I hope people didn't take my post wrong/negatively when I said she 'can't' do those things - I was just trying to contrast it with the 'can' post and keep it really that there are in fact, a lot of things she isn't doing right now LOL
