When I had Addy at the doctor a couple of weeks ago I asked about having her neck x-rayed since she had never had it done before. I figured it was just a routine check for AAI since most kiddos with DS are checked for it anyway. When we went to the hospital to have them done it took forever!! When we started the films they would take a few and go and talk to the radiologist and they would come back and take some different ones. This happened three different times so I was a little nervous that perhaps something was wrong. Naturally they don't tell you anything at the time! Addy's pediatrician called me yesterday while I was in one of my many before school meetings and asked me to call him today after 10. I was in a meeting to well after 11 but got a hold of him right away. He told me that the x-rays showed some subluxation (excessive slippage). So he said he and the radiologist both agreed that Addy needs to be seen by a neurosurgeon, so now we wait for that referral. I am hoping and praying that she is asymptomatic and won't need any surgery, I hate to put her through that, she's been through so much!

Hey Cammie!
Just wanted to let you know our Grace has AAI and is asymptomatic (if I remember it is 6-8 mm?). We just have to be monitored yearly and visit a pediactric neurosurgeon in the Twin Cities. I will hope and pray your sweetie has the same diagnosis if one has to have it! Love, Paula

oh no - how scary to hear. Hoping for the best
Praying she needs no surgery!
Jack's x-rays resulted in a AOI dx. We saw Dr. Leonard at St.L Children's if you'd like a recommendation from there! Thinking positive thoughts for Addy!
