This morning Addy learned how to partially undress herself with a big tank top. Awesome huh?
This afternoon/evening were down right crazy! Addy had private speech therapy at 4. It's so strange going there. It is the same clinic where I got my degrees, it's a good feeling, just different now that I am not the student! The director of the clinic is a former co-worker of mine. She came out to the waiting room and said "Oh Cammie!" and just smiled and smiled! She told me that several people went in to observe Addy to day because everyone couldn't stop talking about how cute she is!! I know she is adorable but why does it make a mommy feel so good when nice things are said about their kids??? She just went on and on, it was really sweet! We left speech and we were headed to grab something to eat before we went to Jump Mania for a Down Syndrome Group of the Ozarks gathering. Jake wanted Brahms so in we went! I sat with Addy and got her situated while Jake went to the counter to look at the menu. A couple was getting ready to leave. This was an elderly couple, I'm guessing they both could have been in their 90s. Anyway, the wife whispered to the husband, the husband looked at us and smiled. They started to leave and then he turned around. He hobbled his little weak body over to us and began patting on Addy and rubbing her head. His wife followed and started talking to Addy. She looked at me and said "She's a Mongoloid, isn't she?" As much as I wanted to correct her I just stated "Yes, she has Down syndrome." They both could not stop touching Addy and of course she just smiled and smiled. The man kept saying to me, "Love her, just love her." I said to him that we definitely do. His wife said with a tear in her eye, "They made us put ours away. Just love her." I was about to cry right then and there! They turned to hobble out and kept turning back and looking at Addy and smiling and waving. It was such a moment for me. I cannot imagine how they were feeling. I hope Addy gave them some good feelings and they are okay. I can't imagine having to "put a child away".
After that emotional roller coaster we headed to Jump Mania. It was very dead there tonight, I was quite disappointed. Last year it was packed! Anyway, Jake had a blast and Addy went on her very first bounce house slide ordeal. Pretty sure she won't be doing that again anytime soon if she has anything to say about it!

Here she is playing Peek A Boo with my friend Annie. Her little guy is Simon, he's just over a year old and too cute for words!

WOW, those people at the place were she has speech therapy sure are right, she is such a cutie. I love the picture of her not enjoying the slide so much!
Oh Addy, how stinkin' cute are you?! I am not surprised that everyone was doting on her!! Enjoy it mom!! And what an emotional story regarding the elderly couple. I cannot even imagine having to give Landon up. Good for you in choosing your battles over terminology. I always try to consider the source! I'm sure Addy made them smile:)
Love the pics too! Especially the one of Addy stretching. Such a fitness buff! LOL
I love her in glasses!
I love your Addy but I think you know that!I love the partially undressing herself, totally awesome and,my heart was so very sad for that couple.Really sad.Reminds me of what goes on in Eastern Europe and with all our precious RR children. But then again there is us,her in the US,I think we are up to a 94 %termination rate ... sad, beyond words.
I also thought it was extremely brave and beautiful for that couple to open up to you.I think I'll say a special prayer tonight for all those who didn't and don't have choices.:(
Awww, that made me cry. I can't imagine how heart breaking that would be to "put your child away," but understand that back in those days so little was known and so much trust was put in doctors. Very sad.
Addy is adorable as always, no wonder every one was fussin over her at speech : )
My heart just sank when I heard what that couple had to do. I don't blame them for saying "Mongoloid" as that was the term used back then and they probably just don't know any different. But the fact that they were told to "put theirs away" sounds exactly like what goes on in Eastern Europe...I like to think that those parents don't want to do it over there either and that someday it will be okay to raise them like it is here. As always, love me some Addy!!!
Yeah Addy on that shirt milestone! Very sad story...but I don't think anything happens by chance, there was a reason you guys went there.
What a blessing to them to see Addy and experience just a moment of the joy of her!
Addy....you are seriously THE CUTEST thing EVER!!! Great job learning to undress yourself! Watch out Momma....I bet she has her shirt off lots now! :)
It breaks my heart thinking of that couple! I am so glad that things are different in this day and age! They probably loved seeing Addy, but it probably saddened them to see what their child could have been! So Sad!
My mom just told me about a movie that she watched on Lifetime about a similiar situation.....How the nurse that was supposed to take this child to a home to be "put away" just couldn't do it, so she raised her by herself. It follows the child and shows how great she did throughout her life. Sounds like a great movie, that teaches a great lesson!
my heart is just breaking for that couple who had to "put theirs away" - that is just so awful for them, for their child and for any other children of theirs! i am so happy addy was able to bring a smile to both of them and they could share with you their story! thanks for sharing that story with us!!! (even though it made me tear up!)
You are too cute for words, Miss Addy.
My heart breaks for that old couple...they were robbed of so much joy.
I'm impressed on how well Addy keeps her glasses on!
I got tears picturing this couple in my mind. How sad for them to have lived their entire lives without their child. They obviously have carried a lot of pain throughout the years. :(Addy is a sweetheart!
