Another surgery?!?!?

Well I got the call from the pulmonologist regarding Addy's sleep study. It showed that she absolutely cannot sleep without her oxygen! We knew that but were really hoping that we could take her off during the day. He didn't really give me a direct answer about that over the phone so I think I'll just ask again in person. Anyway, he is going to be contacting her cardiologist and ENT to discuss having her tonsils and adenoids removed. I know it's a minor procedure but my goodness this little girl has had enough! Hopefully it will happen without a hitch and improve her 02 levels at night. They doc said it appears like she has some sort of obstruction but he doesn't know why and said that removing T&A would possibly help. So it looks like we may be heading down the surgical path once again. Poor little thing has had 8 surgeries and she is only 15 months old! Well I'm going to make sure I have everything I need for the next few days they're predicting about a foot of snow starting tomorrow! I'm actually excited about it, my boys have been snow deprived this year! Jarika's not too happy about it because I won't let her drive to school tomorrow. I know it's crazy not letting my 16 year old daughter who has had her license two days drive in a blizzard! I guess I'm just one of those overprotective parents!

Sleepless

Well last night I had to take Addy to the hospital for a sleep study that was ordered last August and just couldn't be completed due to illness or surgery. So I was really looking forward to getting this done so we can prove that she really doesn't need the O2 anymore. Well she fell asleep before check in at 8 p.m. She is usually down by 7 and they wanted me to go ahead and wait to bring her. BIG mistake! She slept four about 45 minutes and then was ready to party. After we spent an hour getting her hooked up to as many leeds as possible and making her very mad, they finally left us alone so she could go to sleep. Well that didn't happen until after midnight! She fussed and complained and tossed and turned. She never does that. At three she was in a full blown screaming fit, once again, something she never does. Therefore, I spent all night trying to comfort her with no avail. This morning when it was time to leave they did ask if that was a typical sleep pattern for her. I had to laugh, are you kidding me? I thought. If I had nights like that every night I think I would go crazy! So I travel the thirty minutes back home to Scott and the kids and this is what I came home to (after no sleep mind you), Avery's clothes completely did not match and Jarika was chomping at the bit to go take her drivers test (45 minutes away). So here I go with my precious 16 year old daughter to a little podunk town to give her the license to drive! She passed and we came on home to get my car. Then she followed me to school so I could sign her in and I just cried. I don't know if it was the sleeplessness or the fact that my baby was now on her own! So, hopefully tonight I can fit in a jacuzzi and a full nights sleep!

It's freezing!

I am so tired of it being so cold! For once we actually have today off and it's freezing! We are usually losing this day to a snow make-up day so we were pretty excited about actually having it off to have some fun but it is just too cold. I did take the boys for some much needed haircuts but that's it. No way I'm taking Addy out today! I take her back to the surgeon tomorrow for a post-op appointment. I'm posting her before and after surgery pix, I hope they don't gross anyone out! It is so nice not having to change colostomy bags anymore! She is healing nicely and aside from having a case of Pink Eye and some funky rash on her legs she is doing great! I'm following everyone's blogs that are in Ukraine and I'm so excited for these families! Ukraine looks so beautiful and different from our little rural town of 6000! Just starting

Well I am just starting this blog journey! I've had several people ask if I had one so now I do! My name is Cammie Heflin, wife to Scott, and mother to four great kids! Our daughter Jarika is 16 (today as a matter of fact), our son Cooper is 8 years old and has a form of Autism called Asperger's Syndrome, our son Avery is 6 and our newest arrival came to us through the wonder of adoption. Sonja Addysen Grace Heflin is 15 months old and has Down syndrome. We have had her since August 6th, 2007. I am a speech-language pathologist and work for our local school system here in Marshfield, Missouri. I work with the Early Childhood Special Education program for 3-5 year olds. I absolutely love my job, it's so rewarding to see children figure out that their communication is worth something!
